#OwenStrong Headquarters

Most surfcasters know who John Hanecak is. He is widely considered to be one of the best surfcasters of this era. He logs dozens of impressive fish every year and has three 50's to his name. In May of 2016,  John and his wife Karyn welcomed their son Owen into the world; earlier this year Owen was diagnosed with Leukemia.
One of the greatest things about the surfcasting community is that we are a small group, but we are dedicated and we are very aware of what goes on in our little world. This makes us very powerful when one of our own is in need of some help. Owen is facing a long road of treatment, but he couldn't be in better hands. With a loving family, a dedicated mom and dad and a community of fishermen that takes care of their own, we're optimistic about his treatment and that mom, dad and the rest of the

family can be there to provide the most important part of any person's recovery from a difficult disease--love, support and positivity. With those things in place and the amazing people working at Connecticut Children's Medical Center providing the right treatment; Owen is on the right path to recovery.

Our role as friends of the Hanecak Family is to be as supportive as we can be. These treatments are not cheap, John and Karyn will be spending a lot of time where they belong--with their son--but this means days and weeks without pay, while the medical bills continue to accumulate. It is our hope and goal that we will be able to lessen financial impact of treatment over the next three-plus years--because there is only one place a parent belongs when their child is ill, and that is right by their side.

If you haven't participated in a catch/photo/release tournament, let us explain. The most important thing is that you must download the TOURNAMENT TAG before making your first cast. A TOURNAMENT TAG is nothing more than a unique image that must be included in the measurement photo of each fish you catch. You also need a good measurement device; we require either a metal measuring tape or a folding carpenter's ruler. These measuring devices lie flat and provide the most accurate measurement.
It is of the utmost importance that you record your fish quickly--this is even more important that doing it accurately. If too much time is taken the fish will not survive the release. We recommend setting up a measurement area before making a cast. Work quickly, lay the fish down and line the tail up with the '0' end of the ruler or tape, take a quick photo, and then shoot a selfie of yourself with the fish and quickly get the fish back into the drink. A well-executed entry should take less than one minute to complete.
Each inch is counted as one point and the combined point score for your five largest fish throughout the duration of the event will determine your placement on the leaderboard.

Lines in will be 6:00 p.m. Friday September 22nd and the event ends Saturday, October 21st at 6:00 a.m. Please take the time to read all RULES before competing.
